Out in the Wild, free-ranging

in Squamish, BC

1:1 sessions in the great outdoors!

One of my favourite ways to facilitate sessions is by walking and exploring movement in nature on the trails. There's a subconscious power that's invited in the natural setting that isn't accessible as easily in a gym or clinic.

This is a unique option I offer that works beautifully in conjunction with specific strength work in the problem-solving phase of treatment to invite movement inquiry allowing the whole body to work with all its systems in dynamic self-expression.

How yOUR body wants to move

I consider myself your co-pilot on the journey back to remembering how to move painlessly. YOU are the pilot, the boss, the leader, and ultimate guide!

I'm simply the expert fly on the wall (truly honored to be your sweet right-hand man) offering you what I see from this epic vantage point (up here on the wall) and suggestions from both my experience and expertise on how to more fully use your sensations (senses) as guides to see where movement patterns have become sticky. From here we will gently explore new ways of moving in a safe environment to build strength and rewire the brain for appropriate motor control based on your unique physiology.

  • Back to the basics; learn to pair your breath with natural movement through play - to build graceful strength
  • Restore basic human movement patterns to recalibrate your body to its natural harmony.
  • Whether rehabbing an injury, noticing an imbalance, or wanting to improve strength, clients are invited and encouraged to explore the way they move in a safe environment to meet their needs.
  • Understand your optimal biomechanical alignment using a variety of modalities and physiological tools in the toolbox of mobility, kinetic chain and motor control

What you can expect from our sessions

1.

Ongoing Assessments

To understand what is going on in your body and your movement, first, we need to look at what IS.

How you are feeling and how your body is moving in that moment - where it is fluid and strong, and where it is feeling limited or asking for love.

From here we will clarify what this means for you in achieving your fitness or movement goals.

2.

Play/Guide

From this place of understanding and knowledge we can begin to play with your body's reactions to inspired and aligned movement - both mobilizing and strengthening.

We can explore ways to interrupt stagnant patterns and guiding more life and ferocity into your movement with ease.

3.

Practice

This place of play and exploration (and your body's reactions/responses) will allow us to create a personalized practice plan to continue to build your foundation for fluidity and ferocity in your athletic endeavors in between our sessions.

Each practice plan will build on previous sessions' plans to move you closer to your longer-term goals and desires from working together.

4.

Support

I would LOVE to have you check in with me between sessions. To share places you are seeing shifts and ask questions so that I can continue to support you in realizing the most potent growth in your movement through celebration, guidance and ongoing adaptation.

Slinky Spine Classes

In-Person in Squamish, BC, Canada
at Join Breathworks
Fridays, 4-5pm PST/PDT

A combination of neural tension release techniques, mobility, spinal decompression and freeing up what doesn't need to be held.

Do you feel disconnected in your body, or like you are holding chronic tension in certain spots?

Have you found yourself stuck in a cycle of repeated patterns that are holding you back?

Do you seek rhythm and fluidity in your sport, and to feel like you have the freedom, knowledge and capability of reaching your full potential?

This class is focused on rebalancing holding patterns that inhibit your freedom of movement.

Through a variety of movements, I'll invite your nervous system to release holding patterns, and reset itself to your natural harmonious state. A state where the spine is a connected channel of communication between your feet, hips, shoulders, neck and head.

Slinky Spine is an invitation for you to learn how problem solve your movement in the moment as it arises, embody yourself as you learn to move from your center out, and empower yourself as you expand into the freedom of your movement potential.

My job and commute have me driving 3-6 hours daily in a vehicle that is FAR from ergonomic and it was killing my body. The hip/back/shoulder tension was so bad I had pinched nerves and thrown out my back.

After only two sessions with Melanie to address this, the pain from driving is gone, and, when it flares up occasionally after crazy long driving days, I have the tools to deal with it.

I now have an arsenal of daily movements that eliminate the compacted pressures of driving as well as strategic practices for while I'm stuck in traffic IN the car. Melanie even helped me pad/alter my seat in specific ways to optimize my posture and body position so I can be stacked and aligned WHILE driving.

Working virtually with Melanie has completely shifted my relationship with my body. I can feel my alignment completely changing after years of simply living with chronic back, shoulder and hip pain I can feel ease in my movement and a 90% reduction in pain/discomfort.

I have loved the option/opportunity to check in with her between sessions to let her know how the movements are affecting me and to get her suggestions and guidance on how I can play differently with the sensations to explore what my body is truly needing or wanting.

After years of being constantly unable to run because of knee and hip pain I feel ready to begin training with what feels like a new body.

Working with Melanie was a game changer.

I came to her with chronic injuries and nerve pain. She is incredibly knowledgeable and intuitive. She explained things clearly and taught me simple exercises. I had so much relief! Plus, her passion for helping others is so infectious she became my inner cheerleader.

I highly recommend working with her for both immediate and long-term success.

I just had my first meeting with Melanie and I'm amazed at how much difference it's already making in my ankle pain. I came in with some ankle pain that has been bothering me off and on for months and had gotten really bad in the last few weeks.

After one session I'm already feeling and seeing relief and feel like I'm on the path to not only healing but better function and access to a healthy foot and a healthy ankle expanding my mobility range so that I'm not restricted anymore.

She was incredibly personable, and knowledgeable. And it was fun. I didn't necessarily think about that going into it, but it was incredibly fun and eye opening.

Already I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel even though I've just begun the journey and so I'm excited about it, seeing how far we'll come in our time together and I look forward to our next session.
